Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)

ART has nothing to do with art. ART stands for anti-retroviral therapy, i.e. medication that curbs the HI-virus.

The ART clinic(s) set up by Chreso Ministries are located in Lusaka, Kabwe, Livingstone and other places in Zambia. The HI-virus hit Zambia hard in the 1990s. Through their work with the mobile clinics of the Chreso ministries, Esther and Helmut Reutter were also confronted with the rapid spread of HIV.

The Chreso team had the privilege of becoming part of the AIDS Relief Consortium and the first ART clinic was opened in Lusaka in 2004. The development and continuation of the program was financed by the PEPFAR program (Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) of the American government. The Chreso-Ministries offers all people the opportunity to be tested for the HI-virus, the necessary laboratory tests and the free distribution of ART medication.

Through this program and the participation of more than 40,000 people, many children are growing up with their parents and the average life expectancy has increased from about 40 years in 2004 to over 65 years now in 2024. Further details can also be found at Chreso ART.
