In Zambia, school attendance is compulsory, but this is often not possible due to lack of school fees paid by families, lack of food and poor transportation. This affects girls even more, as they are often married off when they are still young, thus having only marginal educational opportunities and a high risk of HIV/AIDS. Chreso Ministries has therefore built a girls' school in combination with a boarding school in Siavonga in the south of Zambia. This eliminates the long and often dangerous way to school for the girls.
The school leads to a "high school" diploma and afterward mostly to an apprenticeship with good pay in the learned profession. Often these young women support their families, from whom they would actually have been placed because of the bride money of the future husband. The girls' school-leaving qualifications are consistently above the national average. Together with Bread for the World, Chreso Ministries was able to build a computer cabinet with complete equipment for the school.
This girls' school is named after the Mubuyu tree that can be seen in one of the pictures.
