Project background
A total of €45,000 was made available for the ‘capacity building’ of a maternal and child health clinic in Livingstone, Zambia, and for the necessary staffing and equipment (in part). The Würth Foundation contributed €30,000 to the project.
Project Progress
The clinic opened as planned at the beginning of January. Since the start of February, 15 births have already been recorded. The clinic’s services are already being very well received. Surrounding clinics are already cooperating, particularly as this clinic is exceptionally well-equipped in terms of both staffing and facilities (laboratory, ultrasound, etc.). Furthermore, over 100 HIV tests have been carried out on mothers and children. At the ‘under-five’ clinic, vaccinations for one-year-olds have also begun and are proving very popular.
Use of the Foundation’s funds
The funds allocated by the Reinhold Würth Foundation were used as follows:

Operational reliability
Thanks to a generous donation of a complete solar power system (including container shipping), the clinic’s electricity supply is now completely independent of the national grid. This means that there are no longer any operational disruptions caused by so-called ‘load-shedding’. The system was donated by the family-run company RID Batterie GmbH (Kirchardt).
Project trip
In May 2026, the applicant (Prof. Dr M Zeier) will undertake a project trip to Livingstone, Zambia, and incorporate the results and effectiveness of the clinic into the first milestone report. The clinic was completed in early January and was therefore on schedule. The clinic was able to commence operations by the end of January. The fact that the schedule was adhered to also demonstrates how effectively Chreso Ministries operates. The official opening of the Mother and Child Health Clinic took place on 16 February 2026.

We - Drs. Huber and Reutter from the Zambia Support Association and Chreso Ministries - would like to thank the Reinhold Würth Foundation, in particular Prof. Dr. h.c. Reinhold Würth and Mr. Schmalzl - as Chairman of the Foundation Board - and all staff members for their support in implementing the project.
Following my project trip in May 2026, I will submit the first milestone report as agreed.
Prof. Dr. med. Martin Zeier introduces us to Christina Zoulu, the senior midwife at the Livingstone Maternity and Children’s Hospital. Ms Zoulu talks about the family-centred care approach at the hospital, which opened in early 2026.
